Life is changing every day and some changes are scary. You may be moving to a new home and don’t know what to expect. Maybe one of your parents is leaving, or you may be getting a new baby sister or brother.  Your body is changing too. Some changes are to the good, but some are bad changes. How should you react when your world is tipping over? Does God care about these changes?  Let’s open the Bible and see!

What should I do about the scary changes in my life?  You must trust in God and believe that He is with you.  Remember these Bible promises, “But the eyes of the Lord are watching over those that fear Him, who rely upon His steady love… We depend upon the Lord alone to save us. Only He can help us; He protects us like a shield” (Psalms 33:18, 20, TLB).  King David also compared God to a shepherd who takes care of the sheep. He wrote, “Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need! Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way” (Psalm 23:1, 4, TBL). When you truly believe that God is guarding and guiding you, change will not be so scary.

How should I feel about change?  The Bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NKJV). God will use change as part of the “all things” that will help us to grow more like Him.

Does God want me to change? Yes! The Bible Says, “These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:16-19 NKJV).  In other words, God wants us to change our ways and become more like Him.

What is God trying to make me into? The Bible Says, “ But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him” (2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB). God wants us to be like Him, to be changed into His image.

After I have changed, what will I be like? The Bible Says, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 NKJV)  “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8 NIV).

Should I try to change others? The Bible Says, “Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:5 NKJV).

What should I pray daily? The Bible Says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24 NIV). Ask God to change your heart daily, so it is more like His!

Is there anything that doesn’t change? Yes! It’s in the Bible, “For I am the Lord – I do not change” (Malachi 3:6, TLB). So if your life is spinning in circles, don’t be afraid. God is like a rock. He doesn’t change. He will always love you and be there to guide you through life’s changes.
