Help
Many years ago in Poland, there was a young lady named Irena. Irena was a social worker working in the worst parts of Warsaw during World War II. While Hitler was trying to kill the Jews, Irena used her job as a way to get children to safety. Babies were hidden in packages and carried out of the ghetto to safety. Some teenagers went out as workers to jobs and then escaped to a safe place. Irena has been credited with saving over 2,500 children during the war. She found a way to help others and stepped forward to do her part.
Everyone needs help. Who does the Bible say we should help? “Everyone helped his neighbor, and said to his brother, ‘Be of good courage!’” (Isaiah 41:6 NKJV) Our world would be a happier and safer place if everyone was willing to help their neighbors and also encourage others. Jesus wants us to practice the Golden Rule which says, “…whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them…” (Matthew 7:12, NKJV).
Why is helping others such a big deal? Jesus said that when you help others, it’s the same as helping Him. It’s in the Bible, “Then the King (Jesus) will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world, For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…. I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 26:34-36; 40, NIV). It is also written, “You must love and help your neighbors just as much as you love and take care of yourself" (James 2:8, TLB).
Does God expect me to help my enemies? Yes! It’s in the Bible, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6:27, NKJV).
I need help. Where can I find it? It’s in the Bible, “…The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6 KJV).
Where does our help come from? The Bible makes it very clear that God is our helper. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1, 2 NKJV).
It is also written, “Fear not; for I am with you: Be not dismayed, for I am thy God: I will strengthen you; Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand’ (Isaiah 41:10 NKJV).
“For the Lord GOD will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed” (Isaiah 50:7 NKJV).
Will God help me when I'm in trouble? Yes, and you'll find it in the Bible, Psalm 46:1, TLB. "God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble."
Sometimes I am afraid and I need help to get over my fear. Memorize these promises: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices; And with my song I will praise him” (Psalm 28:7 NKJV) “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, Fear not; I will help you’ (Isaiah 41:13 NKJV).
Will God help me if I have done wrong? “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 KJV). God encourages us to ask Him for help. We can do this through prayer. He is always listening.
A good way to remember each time God has helped you with is to write a word on a rock to remind you of the event of how God has heard your prayer and helped you. Look in 1 Samuel 7:12, TLB to see what Samuel did. "Samuel then took a stone.. and named it Ebenezer (meaning, "the Stone of Help"), for he said, "The Lord has certainly helped us!"

Irena helped many children to safety. As she worked, she trusted God to help with protection for the children and herself. God will help you today, too. Will you trust Him and ask Him for help?
